Frequently asked questions
Why ‘Ghost Light’ Wellness?
We’re so glad you asked! Traditionally, the Ghost Light is the last light left on the stage ensuring safety and lighting the way. We want our on-site physical therapy space and providers to feel like a place of safety, healing, and hope for the theater community. There’s also that other element of a ghost light… but we’re not going to elaborate on the many superstitions of the theater world.
What is Physical Therapy?
We define physical therapy as the evaluation and treatment of human body movement. We don’t believe you have to be injured to benefit from physical therapy. Our approach emphasizes injury prevention, performance maintenance, and comprehensive support throughout your recovery. Physical Therapists can also provide support for nutrition, sleep, lifestyle, and mental health goals!
What Sets Ghost Light Wellness Apart?
This is what we bring to the table to provide you with the best possible care for your production.
DPT: All of the Physical Therapists who work at Ghost Light Wellness have their Doctorate in Physical Therapy. This means we have seven years of schooling under our belts giving us the knowledge to understand and treat not only neuromuscular and musculoskeletal conditions, but also have proficiency in cardiopulmonary, wound care, radiology, and pathology areas. Because we have the knowledge to differentially diagnose patients and refer them to different specialists as needed, we can provide direct access care.
The extensive education and licensure process we went through affords us the privilege to see patients directly without the need for a referral.
Research: Ghost Light Wellness is invested in progressing the science and research of backstage treatment, advancing the field, and increasing the speed of injury recovery.
Backstage Experience: All of the Physical Therapists who work at Ghost Light Wellness are specialized performing arts clinicians and understand the physical and emotional tolls touring takes on all company members. While every show is different, we love being part of the backstage community and know what’s needed to balance the physical and mental stresses with a hectic performance and travel schedule.
Communication/Organization: While we’ll admit administration is not everyone’s cup of tea, we put a lot of thought and care into how to make it more manageable. Effective and timely communications are the cornerstone for good working relationships and that’s why we commit to it! With our service, you can expect clear and concise communication from the physical therapy team to your management teams including wellness reports, injury tracking, and timely, responsive email communications.
Why Physical Therapy?
Physical therapy brings something uniquely valuable to the backstage world. With precise movement analysis and correction, PTs can catch small issues before they grow, and their comprehensive injury diagnosis gives performers clear, immediate answers.
Because vocal and movement specialist PTs understand the physical artistry of singing, dancing, and storytelling, the support feels tailored to how you actually move and create.
Need advice on a warm-up? Sprained your ankle and need rehab? Having trouble sleeping in a new space every week? A Ghost Light Wellness PT is equipped to help with all that and more.
On tour, PTs offer essential continuity of care on the road—the same clinician traveling with you, learning your body, your track, and your goals.
And PT isn’t just about addressing injuries. It’s about peak performance optimization and sustainable performance health, so you can perform at your best, night after night, city after city.
